Here is the place to discuss - or rant - about cultural and political things. Love or hate a politician or party? Opinions about public policy issues and things the government does (or does not)? Put it here.

The "No Fly" List

Post by tim »

>> New York should prohibit individuals on the federal no-fly list or terrorist watch list from purchasing a gun and any firearms they already have should be confiscated, state Sen. Jeff Klein proposed Friday, following a similar move by Connecticut's governor a day earlier. <<

Sounds good, right? But now waitaminute … how is this “no fly list” created and maintained? Well, that’s a secret. National security and all that. Yet the same people that don’t trust the govt to teach their kids about sex are trusting the govt to decide who is denied use of a public accommodation like air travel? And no due process to either get put on the list or dispute one’s being on it? How does this happen in America, that people can be denied their civil rights in this way? And what’s to stop the govt from deciding that, oh, say, atheists shouldn’t be allowed the “privilege” of air travel? You guessed it: NOTHING is stopping the govt from doing something like that.
